The goalkeeper stops diving if not needed, for example when the goalkeeper faces a shot and dives completely to the wrong side, he stops diving, or, more importantly, when a shot going at him is deflected by his defender, he stops diving and gets up quickly to prepare for another likely shot

However, the goalkeeper SHOULD be punished for mistiming a dive. The cooldown between dives should be longer. If the goalkeeper dives the wrong way or panic-dives, they should take significantly longer to recover. Otherwise, there's very little consequence for making the wrong decision.
